Ops Room

Characters

John Mullins:
Born and raised in Southwest Oklahoma, Mullins served three years in Vietnam, earning three Purple Hearts. He was also a member of the controversial PHOENIX group created to assassinate high-ranking Vietcong officers. Mullins retired from the military to become a “consultant,” or mercenary, 12 years ago. He now takes jobs from the U.N. anti-terrorist group called The Shop. Mullins boasts strength and speed that few men possess, and you are in control of him throughout the game.

Madeline Taylor:
With the death of John’s lifelong friend and partner, Hawk, The Shop looked long and hard for a suitable match to Mullin’s can-do attitude. Although a fully-trained field agent, Taylor’s specialty is human medical research, making her an invaluable ally in the fight against chemical and biological weapons.

Sam Gladstone:
Sam is a 62-year-old bookstore owner and part-time employee of The Shop. A captain in Vietnam, Gladstone excelled at recon, later spending several years with the CIA. You meet Sam when you visits Goldberg’s Used Books. He’ll put you in contact with The Shop and get you the equipment and information you need to complete your missions.

Dr. Piotr Ivanovich:
Dr. Ivanovich is a scientist from the former Soviet Union who is developing a deadly new virus.

Dr. Dimitri Sestrogor:
Dr. Sestroger is another scientist from the former Soviet Union who may be linked to the mysterious virus.

Anthony Michaels:
Director of The Shop. He’s a close ally of Mullins.

Aaron Wilson:
Assistant Director of The Shop. Wilson and Mullins rarely see eye to eye.

The Enemy:
This terrorist organization is not to be taken lightly. Its leader is a madman with hundreds of loyal subjects at his disposal, willing to die on command. You’ll encounter gang members, enemy soldiers, and numerous thugs en route to completing the game. The men and women command an arsenal of weaponry and assault vehicles and should be considered armed and dangerous. Take them down before they take you down. Civilians’ lives and the fate of the world are in your hands.

Weapons

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix features 15 real-world weapons with authentic military designations. Each weapon has a variety of firing modes, and several weapons can be outfitted with extras such as silencers.

Steel Commando Knife: The high-tensile steel Commando Knife contains the functionality of several tools while providing its owner with a precision weapon. Although primarily used as a thrusting weapon, the Commando Knife is also finely balanced to allow the weapon to be thrown with great accuracy.

M1911A1: Original development of the M1911A1 pistol began in 1896 by John Browning and by 1908 the M1911A1 was standard issue for the United States Army. The M1911A1 successfully served the military through both World Wars and various police actions but was replaced by the smaller caliber M9 pistol in 1990. In testament to its durability, some M1911A1s can still be found in use.

USSOCOM US SOCOM: The US SOCOM is a highly modifiable heavy caliber pistol containing a considerable amount of stopping power. Used primarily by the military forces of the United States, including the US Army Special Operations Command, the US SOCOM can easily be adapted for suppressed fire and the addition of a laser-aiming module (LAM) and Universal Tactical Light (UTL) allows the weapon to be used on many different operations.

M590: The M590 is a pump-action shotgun based on the Mossberg 590. It features a nine-round tubular underbarrel magazine and a bayonet lug. It’s an extremely rugged and reliable gun that is used by the United States Marine Corps and other law enforcement agencies around the world.

Micro UZI: The Micro UZI is a powerful submachine gun that has been adopted by police and military in over 90 countries. It fires 9mm ammunition from a 20-round magazine at a rate of 1200 rounds per minute. The Micro UZI is a compact version of the standard UZI, and it is designed to be fired one-handed.

M3A1 Grease Gun: Work began on the M3A1, a new weapon based on designs from the British Sten machine gun, in October of 1942. Nicknamed the “Grease Gun” due to its resemblance to a mechanic’s grease gun, the M3A1 is unusual in that is has a relatively slow rate of fire.

USAS-12: The USAS-12 may resemble the famous M-16 in form and shape, but the similarities end there. Firing large, 12-gauge buckshot in a fully automatic pattern, the USAS-12 is the heavy support trooper’s weapons of choice.

M4M4 with M203 Grenade Launcher: The M4 Assault Rifle was designed to create a more manageable and smaller version of the classic M16 rifle. Firing the same round as the M16, the smaller size of the M4 allows easier concealment of the weapon, making it a plus on covert operations. The ability to attach a sound and flash suppressor greatly increases the deadliness and usefulness of this weapon.

ak-74AK-74: Originally introduced in the early 1970s, the AK-74 used the design of the AKM but introduced a smaller caliber round to the weapon. One of the most duplicated and used assault rifles in the world, the AK-74 is a durable, efficient, and deadly weapon. The AK-74 normally uses 5.45 x 39mm ammunition, but many have been modified to use NATO 5.56 x 45mm.

MSG90A1 Military Sniper Rifle: The MSG90A1 is a second-generation sniper rifle that was created from the military specifications of the US Army’s Sniper Rifle System. Created for greater range and accuracy, the MSG90A1 can be modified to use an optional sound suppressor and a low-signature gas-venting flash hider.

M60 Machine Gun: Created in the late 1950s as the US Army’s general-purpose machine gun, the M60 quickly became a staple for the US infantry units. Sturdy, reliable, and powerful, the M60 can quickly turn the tide of a battle.

RPG-7 Weapon System: The RPG-7 is a missile launcher developed in Russia. It is a very efficient anti-vehicular weapon with an effective range of 300 meters against moving targets and 500 meters against stationary targets. The missile is powerful enough to penetrate approximately one foot of conventional plate armor.

MM-1: The MM-1 is a 40mm semi-automatic grenade launcher that can launch twelve rounds in less than six seconds. Ammunition is contained in a rotating magazine that takes approximately 50 seconds to reload.

RPD-46: The development of the Russian RPD began in 1943 and was produced in volume after the end of World War II. The RPD is a 7.62mm machine gun that fires 650-700 rounds per minute from a belt or box magazine. It lacks penetration and range, however.

OICW: A weapon made for the urban battlefield of the future, the Objective Individual Combat Weapon is a formidable weapon. The bottom gun is a modified H&K G36 rifle that delivers 5.56mm ammunition from a 30-round box magazine. The top gun is this weapon’s specialty, however, launching 20mm grenades from a six-round box magazine. The weapon is also equipped with a day/night sighting system with integrated laser rangefinder for extreme accuracy.
Headgear

Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix includes a variety of headgear to enhance your vision in difficult situations.

Heavy-Duty Binoculars: These standard field binoculars will allow the user to see at a magnification of up to 20X.

Night-Vision Goggles: Night-Vision goggles are suitable for nighttime surveillance or fire control observation. This particular set of goggles is worn as headgear, allowing the hands to be free.

Thermal-Vision Goggles: These experimental Thermal-Vision goggles are specifically designed for military use. Using a red to blue gradient, they greatly enhances the outline of living things in any type of environment.

John F. Mullins: Bio

John F. Mullins shares a very similar background to his digital counterpart. Mullins was born in Southwest Oklahoma in 1942, and signed up for the U.S. Army the moment he finished high school. He quickly became a paratrooper, and then tried his hand as a medic in Special Forces (Green Berets). He served his first six-month tour of duty in Vietnam in 1963, and soon earned the rank of Infantry Second Lieutenant. Over the next seven years he would serve three more tours in Vietnam. Mullins was honored with the rank of Captain by the time he returned to the United States in 1970. He attended advanced schooling in tactics and languages, and throughout the 1970s he ran training missions in Europe, Central America, the Middle East and other locations around the world.

Mullins retired from the military in 1981, after nineteen years of service in the Special Forces. He then offered his tactical expertise to governments and civilians as a “consultant,” or mercenary for hire. His missions included training, asset recovery, hostage negotiation and rescue, and required him to travel all over the globe.

In the early 1990s, Mullins founded a company that specializes in the production of non-toxic frangible ammunition. He also began a second company dedicated to the construction of tactical firing ranges, and he is the founder of the Tallgrass Center for Advanced Tactical Training.

Mullins is a published author and holds several university degrees. He speaks four languages, and also serves as a consultant to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). His combat awards include the Silver Star, Bronze Star with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and several Purple Hearts.
