ribbonNew Characters

Vincent Crabbe
He’s one of Draco’s dense sidekicks. Ron impersonates him when he and Harry question Draco Malfoy.

Dobby
DobbyHe’s a house-elf, a small, funny-looking creature that performs menial tasks for a wizard family for its entire life. Dobby was bound to the Malfoy family, but he escaped to warn Harry that he must not return to Hogwarts for his second year, or he will be in grave danger.

Argus Filch
Hogwarts’ caretaker is a cranky old man who hates all the students at the school. His cat, Mrs. Norris, wanders the hallways and alerts him psychically if someone wanders into the off-limits areas. Some think he’s such a grouch because he’s a squib (someone born into a wizard family but unable to practice magic).

Gregory Goyle
Big and dumb, Goyle follows Draco Malfoy around Hogwarts and acts as a kind of henchman for him. Malfoy once told him: “If you were any slower, you’d be going backward.” At one point in the story, Harry disguises himself as Goyle to learn what Malfoy knows about the Chamber of Secrets.
  Gilderoy Lockhart
LockhartThe Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching position has been a problematic one at Hogwarts, and that trend didn’t end with Lockhart. He’s well-known for his vanity as well as his large body of published work. His books include Break with a Banshee and Gadding with Ghouls.

Moaning Myrtle
She’s a ghost who haunts a girls’ bathroom on the second floor of the Hogwarts castle. Her untimely demise has a connection to the Chamber of Secrets.

Madame Pomfrey
Every school has a nurse, and Madame Pomfrey fills that role at Hogwarts. She’s the one who takes care of all the students who turn to stone during the story. Why they turn to stone is a matter for you to figure out.

Tom Marvolo Riddle
What is his connection to the terrible Lord Voldemort? Here’s a hint: his name is an anagram.

Ginny Weasley
Ron’s younger sister plays a larger role in this story than the last one. She has a bit of a crush on Harry.

Oliver Wood
This Quidditch fanatic leads the Gryffindor team, which Harry plays on.
ribbonNew Creatures

Arogog
All sorts of nasty spiders roam the Forbidden Forest, which lies outside the Hogwarts castle grounds. Arogog is one of the biggest and nastiest of them all. He was actually raised by Hagrid, but now he lives in the forest with his wife and spider children.

Basilisk
You’ll have to finish the game to learn what this creature is.

Bowtruckles
These forest creatures look like living pieces of bark. Cast a Rictusempra (a stun charm) spell on them to get some Wiggentree Bark, which is one of the ingredients needed for Wiggenweld potions.

Cornish Pixies
You’ll find these flighty creatures flitting around the castle and other spots around Hogwarts. Use Rictusempra to stun them.

Ectoplasm
Not quite a monster, ectoplasm is the luminous green gunk left behind by supernatural creatures such as ghosts. Cast Skurge, which works well against anything supernatural, to get rid of it. If you touch it, you’ll lose a lot of health.

  Fire Crabs
Use Rictusempra on them and then knock them back by casting Flipendo.

Giant Orange Snails
Attack them the same way you would the crabs. The bigger ones require two hits.

Gnomes
These annoying creatures inhabit every nook and cranny of the Hogwarts grounds. You can hit them with a Flipendo spell to get a few of the Bertie Botts’ Every Flavor Beans that they carry. Don’t get too close to them or they will try to steal the Beans you’re carrying. To get rid of them permanently, throw them into a gnome hole.

Imps
Use Rictusempra on these nasty little beasts.

Norklup Mushrooms/Venoumous Tentaculas
Cast Diffindo (a cutting spell) to disable these plant-like creatures.

ribbonHarry Potter Fan Sites

If you’d like to explore more of the world of Harry Potter fandom, take a look at these web sites, which were among our favorites:

The Harry Potter Lexicon: This site is probably the ultimate place to learn about everything and anything Potter-related, at least as far as the books are concerned.

Harry Potter Guide: You’ll learn plenty about Harry’s world and get to indulge in some speculation about the future novels at this site.

Daily Prophet: This site pretends to be a Hogwarts news publication and features mock articles written by characters from the books.

Hagrid’s Hut: This clever site presents Harry’s world from the point-of-view of Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid. You’ll even find Hagrid’s interview with the Daily Prophet here.

Harry Potter’s World of Magic: What if there was a Harry Potter theme park? The mother and her son who created this site decided to present their own version.

Hermione’s World: A site full of one fan’s fiction, including a story that takes place during Harry and Hermione’s seventh year at Hogwarts (when Rowling’s fabled seventh book in the series will take place).

Hogwarts Haven: This site offers a message board as well as plenty of quizzes and polls.

Harry Potter - The Ultimate Guide: Almost as good as The Harry Potter Lexicon.

Harry Potter Facts: Want to know where certain names and terms can be found in the books? Search on them here to find out.
